The Missoula International School is a nonprofit, independent school in Missoula, Montana offering a unique educational opportunity for Missoula families. Our mission is to nurture strong minds and open hearts in children. We achieve our goals by providing an engaging international curriculum taught primarily in Spanish for children between the ages of three and fourteen.
MIS' curriculum is founded on the desire to create lifelong learners. In preschool, young children are encouraged to learn through exploration and play, and developmentally appropriate activities. As MIS students develop, they are able to ask, as well as answer, compelling questions. In the primary grades, academic excellence is achieved through a rigorous curriculum with goals framed by international educational standards. It is an inquiry-based approach, which fosters the natural curiosity that exists in every child. MIS students explore their world in more than one language, which further stimulates cognitive development, creates greater sensitivity to language and cultures, and builds self-esteem.
We envision a world in which all citizens treat each other with kindness, dignity and respect. We encourage our students to become compassionate, active, global citizens. The creation of international friendships and cultural understanding is enriched by the ability to communicate in more than one language. Through language immersion, MIS students explore the similarities and differences in cultures reflected in our students body, our community and the world. As language proficiency develops, students gain an instinctive appreciation of other cultures and perspectives.
