Although providing over-the-counter drugs is illegal in the United States, failure to enforce US laws likely encourages these companies to sell their products to patients. There are several limitations to this study. Patients are increasingly using the Internet not only to access health information but also to obtain medication. Second, we examined whether the vendor would ship prescription antibiotics to a buyer in the United States, as well as several other countries (Canada, United Kingdom) where antibiotics are available only by prescription. Some Internet vendors also attempt to skirt US regulations by operating in countries outside the United States but marketing to US consumers. We therefore wanted to find out if the amount of time between online evaluation and getting treatment was significantly longer. The purpose of this study was to examine antibiotics available to patients without a prescription, a phenomenon on the Internet. Although excessive consumption of antibiotics has contributed to the spread of antibiotic resistance, 4-6 most initiatives regarding inappropriate direct human consumption of the antibiotic therapy center are almost exclusively controlled by prescribing by healthcare clinicians. Fifth, we estimated the expected delivery time to take antibiotics. In conclusion, antibiotics are freely available for purchase over the Internet without a prescription, and the general structure of transactions encourages self-medication and poor quality care. The first 300 search results of on both sites were examined to identify vendors for antibiotics that did not require a prescription.
